Warren Buffett sure knows how to run a jewelry store, do you? |
I keep hitting my head against the wall trying to get jewelers to do what’s right with inventory. If you won't take my word for it, would you take the word of the guy who owns the #1 jewelry store in America?
Borsheims is the largest single jewelry store in America. One store, free standing building does $100 million dollars in volume per year. ONE STORE! That's the #1 store in America, in Omaha Nebraska.
When I tell jewelers about turn and how much inventory they should keep they all agree
"Yes David, we're with you!"
Yeah sure, it’s similar to how Americans feel about their congressmen and senators. A study shows 90% of Americans believe we should deep-six the Congress and the Senate and elect new ones
"Except for mine. I want to keep mine"
Always an exception…

| How do I grade/appraise clarity enhanced diamonds? |
I am having trouble finding a new goldsmith/bench jeweler. My son who has done the repairs for the last 7-8 years is transitioning out to the sales floor. I have advertised with GIA, RJO, Orchid, Craigs list, and a couple of other places, with no success. We have bench tested 3 different candidates and have yet to find a good fit with the necessary skills. Looking for help on where else to advertise this position. With all of the jewelry stores that have closed in the last 3 years there should be a bench jeweler looking for work.
Last year my son made 50K working approx 32 hrs/week. Repairs have increased as well as a price increase to keep up with gold prices. That translates to 60K plus, a year, this year and potentially more in the years to come. That's with sending the custom work out.
Two problems arise, to start, location is the first. We need someone willing to relocate to WY. We are in the prairies and NOT the mountains. Second, we are paying per piece with Mr Gellers book pricing. Seems some lack the confidence to do that much work. Any ideas on where/how to advertise would be greatly appreciated. Or if you know of someone that might be interested please pass the information on to them.
Thanks for ANY help,
